Emma Bettridge is a local author, from Taunton, who has recently celebrated her second publication, Red is Home (Graffeg). Her first book, Goodbye Hobbs (Graffeg), has amassed rave reviews from a variety of professionals and critics, acknowledging the incredible effect this book has on young people, particularly enabling them to address and speak up on those certain topics which can be difficult – grief and loss. CAMHS have already adopted this book as a resource for their tireless work with young people.
Whilst Emma is busy working on her books from her home in Wiveliscombe, she is able to offer school visits to deliver classroom readings and discuss the story in depth with children. Most importantly, she can bring her dog Nell with her (Nell is a seasoned school visitor and also the other half of the team for www.storiesinthewilds.com). Emma can explain the process of writing and talk about a day in the life of an author, she can even give a personal insight into her experiences and motivation, and if the children are lucky, she may even provide a never before seen, sneak preview into her future publications. Emma would also be delighted to personally sign copies of the book for the school, and for pupils who have their own copy, to make the day as memorable as possible, and hopefully encourage many more young writers to explore and share their imagination.
